While hiking around Sprague Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park recently one morning, I came across a fly fishing lesson being taught in the shallower waters of the lake. As I listened from the shore, it was clear the guide was being very thorough in his instruction and encouraging to those who had never wielded such a long, flexible rod.
I do not know if any of the participants went on to catch any trout during their stay in Colorado. I suspect to most, it didn’t matter. Being out in the mountain lake, learning a new activity, and enjoying the warmth of the morning sunshine was perhaps most satisfying. If they had, the thrill of the catch solidified their experience. For their first lesson, wouldn’t you agree they had one great location for their classroom?
